Community college is usually easier than university. While university offers more programs and majors, community college allows you to take your basic classes cheaper. The class ratio at a community college is usually 20:1. Meaning 20 students to one teacher but there are factors that affect this. If you are completing community college you are usually done in two years. As I am a sophomore in college, I have found many helpful tips that I learned my freshman year.
1. The first one is to get to know your teachers. Teachers are there to help you succeed. Never be afraid to ask questions if you don’t understand. Attend those office hours provided by your teacher.
2. Make new friends and don’t be afraid to network. By making new friends and networking you are allowing yourself to have many different doors open for you. Your new friend might know people that have studied what you are studying and can help you. Friends make college so much more fun and much more exciting. Time will fly and you won’t feel as if college isn’t for you. Your friends will be there to pick you up when things get rough.
3. Read your syllabus. Reading your syllabus allows you to know important dates and your teacher. Just read it. It’ll benefit you in the end.
4. Take mental health days. Taking mental health days needs to be a priority. College is stressful and many students get depressed or their mental health declines tremendously. Find out your classes policy for absences and if you can afford to miss a class. Do so. I’m not encouraging you to skip but take the days as needed. Your mental health is important. Take weekends to yourself if needed. Go outside. Go to the park. Get your nails done. Spend some time with the boys.
Do whatever makes you happy. While college is fun, it’s also time for business. I am glad I was able to give you my top 4 tips for being successful.
